Ads inside the Riddle

Riddle requests your Google Ad Manager inventory itself: an Ad block between questions, plus banners above and below the quiz. You set the slots up once per project and pick them per Riddle.

Riddle features: project ad slots + Ad block

Setup: once per project

Banners sit above and below the quiz; the Ad block follows question 1. The ads load inside the Riddle's own frame, and the inspector shows when the Ad block comes into view.

What just happened

Your ad server, Riddle's placements.

01

Ad units become project slots

In the project's ad settings each Google Ad Manager ad unit is added once: path, size, display or video.

02

Slots are placed in the Riddle

An Ad block between questions picks a slot. Top and bottom banners are switched on in the design settings.

03

Riddle requests the ad

When a block is reached, Riddle calls Ad Manager with your ad unit, so impressions land in your own reports.

Build it yourself

No page code. Just settings.

1 · On your page

The normal Riddle embed. The ads come with it.

<div class="riddle2-wrapper" data-rid-id="9qeCGExP">
  <script src="https://www.riddle.com/embed/build-embedjs/embedV2.js"></script>
  <iframe src="https://www.riddle.com/embed/a/9qeCGExP"></iframe>
</div>

Optional: count Ad block views in your analytics from Riddle events.

window.addEventListener('message', function (e) {
  if (e.origin !== 'https://www.riddle.com' || !e.data.isRiddle2Event) return;
  if (e.data.action === 'Block_View' && e.data.blockType === 'Ad') {
    gtag('event', 'riddle_ad_view', { riddle: e.data.riddleId });
  }
});

2 · In the Riddle Creator

Project settings once, then two clicks per Riddle.

  1. Project → Ads: add your Ad Manager ad units as slots (path and size).
  2. Ad block: insert it between questions and choose a slot; optionally delay the next button.
  3. Design → Ads: switch on the top and bottom banner and choose their slot.
  4. Publish: Riddle requests the ads when readers reach them.

Consent & reporting

Treat the Riddle like any other ad placement.

  • Ad requests come from the Riddle frame, so make sure your consent setup covers the embed.
  • Use the same ad units as the rest of your site, so reporting and frequency caps stay in one place.
  • Label ads clearly: give the Ad block a short title such as “Advertisement”.
